Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetic disorder of the nervous system that causes tumors to form on the nerves anywhere on or in the body at any time. While the vast majority of NF-related tumors may initially start out benign, the disorder can be debilitating and may cause disfigurement, blindness, deafness, psychological issues and cancer.

Callahan became involved with Neurofibromatosis Northeast approximately seven years ago shortly after his son Timothy was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Callahan and his family immersed themselves into the various fundraising opportunities NF Northeast has to offer in order to learn more about Tim’s diagnosis and to feel supported by others affected by neurofibromatosis. Callahan and his wife Kerri have become familiar faces at many NF Northeast events and are always ready to provide support to patients and families who, like themselves, had to face this frightening diagnosis.
Callahan is an active supporter of the NF Fall Golf Classic Tournament in Dracut and his law firm has sponsored the tournament since he began playing in it six years ago. He also travels to Falmouth each summer to cheer on Kerri, and the growing NF Northeast Falmouth Road Race Team.
Callahan says, “When my wife and I first found out that our son, Timothy, had neurofibromatosis type 1, NF Northeast helped us in so many ways to learn what this diagnosis would mean and how to cope through it with the support of an amazing group of people. I’m honored to be a member of the board of this organization and look forward to helping in the fight to end NF for good.”
Callahan holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Tufts University. He attended law school at Suffolk University and received a master’s degree in tax law from Boston University. Callahan and his wife are parents to four children.
