Now Is the Time to Try Modern Square Dancing
Modern Square Dancing Is Anything But Square
Did you make a New Year’s resolutions to increase your physical and mental exercise. Square dancing can do both of those and classes will be starting in Danvers on January 31st.
People from all walks of life enjoy modern square dancing for many reasons. It’s a fun way of meeting and interacting with people that is much more personal than chatting on computers or cell phones. There can be a feeling of accomplishment in working together to complete various movements. And contrary to old stereotypes, you won’t find the dance hall filled with old cow pokes trotting to ancient country and western songs.
Instead, families and teenagers, as well as senior citizens, enjoy moving briskly around the dance floor to catchy modern tunes accompanied by a friendly caller/teacher. You may dance in a square but you'll make a circle of friends.
Riverside Squares of Danvers is offering a free introduction to square dancing on Wednesday, Jan. 31st from 7 to 9 p.m. at the All Saints Episcopal Church, 13 Holten St. (GPS address). Classes then continue for 17 weeks at $85 per person. For more information visit www.riversidesquares.org, check out their facebook page, email mib.tlb3@gmail.com, or call 978 774 8159. Come share some free food and dancing, meet new people, and get exercise that doesn't feel like hard work.
