The Rev. Brett Johnson to Serve as Deacon at All Saints Danvers
As Deacon, Rev. Johnson exercises a special ministry of "servanthood" focusing on social care and service with outreach to the community.

DANVERS, MA – The Rev. Brett R. Johnson, recently ordained to ministry by the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts, has begun serving as Transitional Deacon at All Saints Episcopal Church.
Rev. Johnson – who has been discerning his path toward ministry as a postulant at All Saints since 2019, was ordained in June 2021. As Transitional Deacon at All Saints, he will await a call to a church to serve as its priest while he hones his many pastoral gifts under the guidance of Rector Marya DeCarlen.
Beloved by his current parish for his vibrant personality, fulsome faithfulness and generous heart, Rev. Johnson will continue in his capacity as eucharistic and pastoral assistant, helping to prepare for weekly services, proclaiming the Gospel, offering homilies, leading intercessions, and dividing Christian formation activities with Rev. Marya DeCarlen. In mid-September, he will lead a new book study focusing on “We Shall Be Changed: Questions for the Post-Pandemic Church,” edited by Mark D. W. Edington, who is currently the bishop of the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe.
Fully involved with church colleagues and laity in reimagining church after Covid, Rev. Johnson is putting theory into action through his active involvement with the All Saints Technology Team dedicated to ensuring a unique and seamless experience for the church’s one congregation in three distinct locations: in person, on Zoom and streaming on Facebook.
A brain cancer survivor and activist, Brett Johnson is a graduate of Boston University and holds a Master of Divinity degree from Church Divinity School of the Pacific. He is a long-time resident of North Reading where he shares his home with husband David McSweeney and their handsome Boxer named Oscar.
“We send up prayers of joy for Brett as he takes up this service in our midst, and prayers of gratitude, also, for husband Dave and their respective families as they support Brett’s ministry,” said All Saints’ Rector Marya DeCarlen.
