Three New Year's Resolutions that every Real Estate Agent Should Have

Have you made your resolutions yet?

The end of the year is here and everyone is making their New Year resolutions for their personal goals, but why not make some professional resolutions as well. No matter what industry you are in, as a professional, goals are a must. Waiting until the end of the year will allow you to review your progress as a professional and reflect on business decisions that could be improved upon. Based on my experience, every real estate agent should be making three new year resolutions for themselves.

Get Organized
As real estate agents, we are constantly trying to collect new ways of communication for potential clients. Excel sheets are a great way to organize your data and especially client emails, as it can all be found in one place. However, as we all know, adding more emails throughout the year can be overwhelming and ineffective. At the beginning of the year, go back and scrub the list. Make sure that you want to reach out to everyone on that list and double check that the email addresses are still correct. If you use any sort of email distribution platform, you want to make sure every email in that list is legitimate to make sure emails are not being bounced back.

Get Involved
You might be considered the expert in real estate in your local town or community, but that it is not enough. For any business professional, there is always going to be competition. It is important to stand out within your industry, and more importantly, your audience. Whenever there is a community event, be present and be involved. Donate to local charities and volunteer where you can. Write yourself a press release that you can submit to the local paper and share on social media so people so your good deeds don't go unnoticed. Something as small as introducing yourself at town meetings or high school football games will catch people's attention.

Get Educated
Our economy, our profession, our tactics are always going to be changing and as professionals, it is our job to be ahead of this. For example, advertising is always changing. If you have ads running on the local radio station but seem to not get any leads from it, examine how you can make your radio spots more effective. Facebook and social media are taking over, is your Facebook page professional and relevant? Read articles from credited sources so you know what the hot new trends are going to be in the future. Having this knowledge will only impress your clients because you will already know what they are looking for and what they will be asking.

Setting goals and resolutions may seem like an easy task, but everyday distractions may have you losing sight of priorities. By simply reminding yourself of these resolutions every week, you will keep yourself on track, and that will only better yourself and your business. Break your goals down on paper and consider posting them in your works space or somewhere else you will see them frequently. A year seems like a long time to accomplish these goals, but we all know how quickly time can pass.
