Back to School at Nobles, Ursuline; Mitigation, Conservation Committees Meet

September is upon us, and here is a look at what's happening in Dedham this week:

• Monday brings the first Dedham girls soccer scrimmage at Needham at 1 p.m., and Ursuline Academy will wrap up fall sports tryouts.
• Monday also means the Dedham Department of Public Works will be paving Alden Street, so keep cars off the road beginning at 7 p.m. and be aware that Alden will be closed off for part of the day.
• New teachers in the Dedham school district will report for a second round of orientation meetings on Tuesday, and the Dedham boys soccer squad duels Whitman-Hanson at Fairbanks Park.
• On Wednesday, the field hockey and soccer teams for Dedham will play scrimmage matches in the afternoon, and the mitigation funds committee will meet at Town Hall at 6:30 p.m. Don't forget the Dedham Farmers Market begins at noon as well.
• Wednesday is the first day of school for Ursuline girls in grades seven through nine. Ursuline students in grades 10 through 12 return to school on Sept. 2.
• Whole Foods will celebrate its first birthday at Legacy Place on Thursday, and the Conservation Commission will hold a public hearing in the evening.
• On Friday, the Dedham girls soccer team will meet on the pitch against Nobles (at Nobles), and the volleyball team takes on King Phillip. The boys soccer team is at home against Sharon.
• Saturday brings a special event at Dedham High School. "Pints for Half Pints" is a blood drive to donate to patients at Children's Hospital. It starts at 9 a.m. and continues until 3 p.m. Really, there is nowhere else to be, but if blood makes you queasy, Dedham football will scrimmage North Quincy and Dedham field hockey takes on Medfield.
