Boston Law Firm of Breakstone, White & Gluck Donates 120 Bike Helmets to Children at Dedham Bike Rodeo

Attorney David White helped the children select bike helmets and explained the importance of wearing them to prevent head injuries.

DEDHAM – Breakstone, White & Gluck recently donated 120 bike helmets to children at the Dedham Bike Rodeo. The event was held July 30th at the Endicott Estate and was the second time the firm has participated. The event is organized by the Dedham Police Department and Dedham Parks and Recreation Department.

The Dedham Bike Rodeo was free for all Dedham residents and included a children’s bike raffle, an obstacle course, bike repair, t-shirts, lunch and free bike helmets at the Breakstone, White & Gluck tent.

Children got to select new bike helmets and have them adjusted for size by attorney David White. Parents also received literature about bike safety resources and Massachusetts laws.

In Massachusetts, cyclists 16 years old or younger are required to wear bike helmets. It is important for all ages, but children are especially vulnerable. In 2010, children and teenagers under the age of 20 accounted for about half of all 515,000 bicycle-related injuries in the U.S, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Each year, 26,000 of these bicycle-related injuries to children and adolescents are traumatic brain injuries which are treated in emergency departments.
