This course teaches students how to create depth, perspective, and illusion through the use of acrylics by introducing them to basic painting materials and tools.  By combining essential painting techniques and concepts, with an emphasis on color theory, students will learn the formal language of painting while learning the fundamentals of artistic expression.  Through experimentation in pigment mixing and placement of color, each student will discover how to render paint to appear transparent and create optical illusions.  In addition to formal exercises, the class will encourage students to come up with their own narratives for each painting that they create.  The course incorporates traditional guidance in tools and techniques, with the freedom to create unique subjects and/or narratives in each students work.

A supply list will be provided.
