Dedham Hooters Granted Appeal Hearing

The restaurant was denied a liquor license by the Dedham Board of Selectmen.

Dedham, MA — The state's authority on liquor licenses will hear an appeal of a license denial made by the Dedham Board of Selectmen.

On Sept. 7 at 10 a.m., the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission will hear an appeal of the action of the selectmen for denying Hooter's application for a liquor license, according to the ABCC's website. The building is to be located at 850 Providence Highway near Legacy Place.

In April, the board voted unanimously to deny the controversial restaurant a liquor license transfer from Summer Shack, the establishment that previously operated at the proposed location. Prior to the vote, Selectman Dennis Teehan said the overwhelming opposition from the public, the restaurant's hiring practices that may conflict with the town's equitable hiring by-law, and possible sports bar saturation were some of the reasons for the vote against Hooters.
