According to a press release, LoConte suffered bullying focused on her nose, but even after undergoing surgery to ”fix” her nose, her BDD persisted and developed into other harmful behaviors.

“My story is about bullying-preventions through teaching a message of tolerance,” the press release reads. “I dream that my story will one day become a book used in homes and schools to teach children at a young age to learn tolerance toward others who may seem different. Books have the power to save lives.”

LoConte started a successful Kickstarter campaign in order to get her book in print. Copies will be available for sale at the book signing and will be carried on Amazon beginning Dec. 1.
