Dedham Elementary Students Take Part in State Bookmark Contest
The contest was organized by the Massachusetts School Library Association.
Students at each of Dedham’s elementary schools this month took part in the Massachusetts School Library Association bookmark contest.
The contest is held each year to showcase students’ enthusiasm for their school libraries. The theme for this year’s bookmark was “School Libraries: Something for Everyone.”
About 150 students participated in the contest, and winners were chosen from three different categories: Grade 1, Grades 2 and 3, and Grades 4 and 5. The winning bookmarks from each school were then sent on to the statewide contest that was held during the MSLA’s annual conference in March.

“There was no winner from Dedham this year, but students can be proud of the creative bookmarks that were submitted to the contest,” said Ingrid Mayyasi, Librarian Riverdale School.
Book illustrators and authors judge entries from across state before a winner in each category is announced. Past authors and illustrators include Brian Lies, Diane deGroat, Jarrett Krosoczka, and Jack Gantos.
