Dedham Resident Nabbed in FBI Heroin Bust

Federal authorities arrested 25 people they allege were operating a large heroin distribution ring, including one Dedham resident.

Carey Monteiro, of Dedham, was arrested and charged with conspiring to distribute or distributing more than one kilogram of heroin.

The F.B.I. raided seven towns to round up the suspects after a year-long wire-tapped investigation, according to a press release. The epic center of the ring was in Brockton, authorities said.

"[Thursday's] arrests should be a clear signal to those distributing drugs in our neighborhoods that the federal government is aggressively working with state and local law enforcement to track their movements, find their associates and close down their operations," United States attorney Carmen M. Ortiz said in a statement.
