Dedham School Committee Votes to Oppose Raising Charter School Cap
The committee voted to oppose Question 2.

DEDHAM, MA — The Dedham School Committee has taken a stance against a ballot question that would allow for more charter schools in Massachusetts.
The committee recently voted to oppose Question 2. If approved, the charter school cap would be removed and up to 12 new charter schools a year would be allowed. There are currently 78 charter schools in the state.
The Boston Globe reports that the committee's opposition comes from the way the state provides money to the charter schools. Dedham School Superintendent Michael Welch said about 12 students in Dedham attend charter schools, costing the district about $140,000.
