Everything You Need: James Joyce Ramble

Race times, routes and full festivity information for the 28th annual James Joyce Ramble.

For the 28th year, the James Joyce Ramble will rumble through 10 kilometers of Dedham (that's about 6.4 miles for those of you counting at home). We've compiled a list of everything you need to know before heading out to the Ramble - or for navigating around it.

Race Day Registration: $40

Expected Crowd: 2,000 to 3,000 runners. 10,000 people including spectators.

Race Time: 11 a.m.

Race Route: Begins at the Endicott Estate, then heads to Dedham Square, and then up Highland Street and onto Lowder Street. Runners will then take a right onto Rte. 109 and make a right onto Ames Street, before jogging through Dedham Square. Runners will head back onto East Street and finish back at the Endicott Estate.

Length: 10K or about 6.4 miles

Leaders' Estimated Time: 29 minutes

Awards Ceremony: 12:30 p.m. 

James Joyce Read-A-Louds: Mile 1: Finnegans Wake; Mile 2: Ulysess; Mile 3: Portrait of An Artist; Mile 4: Exiles; Mile 5: Dubliners; Mile 6: The Dead

Tip for Spectators: If you want to see multiple locations of the race, a bicycle is the best way to get around the course.

 

Take A Walk

When: Sunday, May 1. Registration begins at 10 a.m.

Registration Information: Bring entry fee of $5 (waived if pledges exceed a total of $20.00)

Start Time: 11:10 a.m.

Walk Route: The course will begin at the Endicott Estate proceeding on East Street, left on High Street through Dedham Square, left on Court Street, right on Highland Street, right on Lowder Street, right on Route 109, back through the Dedham Common, down High Street to East Street and back to the Endicott Estate.

To Benefit: The Dana Farber Cancer Institute

Prizes: A total of nine prizes will be given out for the top fund-raising walkers. 

 

North Star Children's Ramble

When: Sunday, May 1. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Endicott Estate.

Registration: Free

Start Times:  
Ages 4 and under - 9:30 a.m.
Ages 5 and 6 -  9:45 a.m.
Ages 7 and 8 - 10 a.m.
Ages 9 and 10 - 10:10 a.m.
Ages 11 and 12  - 10:20 a.m. 

Location: Corner of  Mt. Vernon and Walnut streets, near the Endicott Library greenhouse.

Prizes: Every registered runner receives a goodie bag, with a book from Candlewick Press or Simon Schuster, along with many items from local businesses and youth organizations.
