MWRA to Conduct Borings in Dedham for Pipeline Project
Work is expected to begin in early August.
The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority plans to begin a series of borings in Dedham this August, MWRA officials said Wednesday.
The effort is part of a plan by the MWRA to develop a pipeline that provides a back-up water delivery system to Dedham and Westwood. The design, according to officials, comprises a 5.4-mile pipeline from the Bellevue Water Storage tanks in West Roxbury through Dedham and into Westwood, where the line will connect with the existing MWRA system.
As part of the project, MWRA subcontractors will begin the series of borings in Dedham on Sawmill Lane, Walnut Street, Mt. Vernon Street, Jefferson Street, Rustcraft Road and Allied Drive.

“The borings may be in the street, or in some cases, in the grassy area between the curb and the sidewalk,” MWRA officials wrote in a statement Wednesday. “Dedham Police details will direct traffic around the boring sites and little impact on neighbors is anticipated.”
Work is expected to be conducted between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays starting in early August, and is expected to last for about four weeks, officials said.
