My Experience running the Falmouth Road Race
A life time experience and diabetes awareness

Two weeks ago I had the honor of competing in the Falmouth Road Race. I was fortunate to get to run the race as part of the Joslin Diabetes team. This was one of the greatest experiences of my entire life. I’ve run nearly 40 races the last few years, but nothing compares to this experience. All the pop and circumstance of a marathon, but with the small town feel of a local road race. The experience was surreal for me. The race starts in Wood Hole and travels seven miles into Falmouth and ends near the center of town. It runs past the beach and the streets and neighborhood in Falmouth. There were spectators on every stretch of the course even very late in the game as I was finishing.
For me this is like going on an a really cool amusement ride, when it was over I wanted to go again. I hope I get another opportunity to run this incredible race. As I previously stated I was part of the Joselin Diabetes Team. Due to all the attention that ALS has gotten this summer with the ice bucket challenges and donations which by the way it deserves, ALS is a horrific disease has made getting donations for my team very challenging. Diabetes is also a terrible disease. I work in a state hospital where many of our patients are homeless or lower class citizens that don’t have access to treatment for diabetes and in some cases the awareness and I’ve seen patients who have had limbs removed due to diabetes. It’s sad and troubling. My heart aches for these folks. The research Joslin does is invaluable to diabetes patients. Their efforts to bring awareness about Diabetes and research to try to find a cure is much needed. Here is a link to my donations page.

My donation page will be up until Sept 10th and I am challenging the Town of Dedham. If you make a donation and I reach my goal of $1,000 I will do the ice bucket challenge for ALS and match my donation I already made. I will also randomly choose one of my donors and that person will get a pair of Celtics tickets for this season. Please consider donating to Joslin on my behalf. Thank
