Police: Hyde Park Woman Drove While Drinking

A 21-year-old Hyde Park woman drove erratically into several shopping carts Saturday evening at Whole Foods in Legacy Place and registered a .30 blood alcohol content, according to Dedham police reports.

Witnesses alerted police when Marie Vardaro pulled out a can of beer from her trunk, hit shopping carts and ran up on a curb, police said.

When officers arrived, Vardaro had an open can of Natural Ice beer in the cup holder of her 1988 red Oldsmobile, according to a report by officer Collin O'Sullivan.

Police said Vardaro smelled of alcohol, slurred her speech and had red, glassy eyes during her booking.

She was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence.
