Summer Camps in Dedham Offering Affordable Summer Fun

Though the beginning of spring is barely upon us, planning for summer can’t wait any longer. For those who do plan ahead, Dedham has a long list of summer camps available with flexible schedules and prices. Some have already passed due, but all are encouraged to call to inquire about what is available.

Director of Bob Stanley said their summer camp applications are due before May 1.

“Early sign ups you can save a considerable amount of money,” said Stanley.

He said their full program at starts June 27 and runs from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. five days a week for eight weeks.

When signing up for eight weeks, Parks and Rec will charge for only seven if registered by June 27. Cost is $150 a week if the application is in May 1. The cost goes up to $175 a week after May 1.

According to Stanley, the program includes arts and crafts, games, swimming, local field trips and inter-playground activities.

Claire Trainor, assistant director at Day Camp, said they begin June 27, run an eight-week program through August 19. There is a minimum signup of two weeks.

“We recommend consecutive weeks to get into routine of camp,” she said and, “bond with counselors”.

She said the size of the camp is driven by enrollment numbers and, “ratios we like to adhere to.”

She said there are waiting lists, if applications are not in on time.

So far, she said, “Some weeks have reached their maximum,” but not in all age groups. She encourages to call Nobles to see what is still available.

According to their website, they offer programs for children ages 3 years old and up at varying prices. There is also a Counselor-in-Training program. The Nobles Day Camp offers a wide variety of sports and is located on the scenic Charles River.

day camp begins on June 26 with orientation for campers and families. According to their website, they offer a full-day 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at $450 per week. Week two is pro-rated at $400 because of the Fourth of July holiday. Half days are from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. for $285 a week and are for nursery, pre-k and kindergarten children only. The second week of that program is $245 because of the holiday.

The other local day camp is the ever-popular camp. It runs from June 27 to August 19.

Applicants need a completed registration form and non-refundable registration fee of $250 and a pick-up and emergency contact form, medical history form and a copy of the child's most recent physical, according to the website. The fee will become part of the overall payment. If the child is registered for five weeks, half the cost can be paid by June 1, with the full payment due by July 1. The cost is $245 per week for members and $258 for non-members.

Activities include the classics like fishing, archery, swimming and field trips, and now include a science program taught by High Touch High Tech Science of New England.
