Susan Cattaneo is an award-winning singer/songwriter who’s a vibrant part of the New England music scene. A Jersey girl who spent her summers in Arizona, her songs combine Americana - country sounds with eloquent and detailed lyrics. Her songwriting skills have earned her national and international attention. In addition to her performing and writing schedule, she has been a Songwriting teacher at Berklee College of Music for the past 15 years.
Susan’s fourth album, Haunted Heart was produced by Lorne Entress and released in January 2014, preceded by a sold out show at Club Passim. Critical acclaim for the album has been overwhelming and Haunted Heart has received the following awards; 2015 Finalist International Acoustic Music Awards in three categories: AAA/alternative, Americana and Country , 2015 Album of the Year Limelight Music Awards, Nomination for best Story Song 14th Independent Music Awards, 2014 Finalist USA Songwriting and 2014 Regional Finalist New Mountain Stage Competition. In addition, Susan was a 2015 finalist in the New Folk Competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival.
In the New England area, Susan has won over audiences at venues such as: Club Passim, Tupelo Hall (in NH and VT), the Shalin Liu Performance Center, the River Club Music Hall, Toad, The Lizard Lounge, Johnny D’s, the Southshore Music Circus and the Harbor Lights.She performed at Nashville’s Americana Music Festival and headlined the New England Americana Festival and the Massachusetts Poetry Festival. Susan has shared the stage with or opened shows for The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Huey Lewis and the News, Les Sampou, Rose Cousins, David Wilcox, Dennis Brennan, Ellis Paul, The Pousette Dart Band, Antigone Rising,
Amy Grant, Paula Cole, Melissa Ferrick and Travis Tritt among others.
Aside from her performing career, Susan is an in demand songwriting workshop teacher. She published songwriting series onAmericansongwriter.com and on GuitarWorld.com (Acoustic Nation) and has been a featured speaker at several Folk Alliance events, including artist and business panels at NERFA and SERFA and teaching songwriting clinics at SERFA and at the National FAI Conference. She has performed at guerrilla showcases at all conferences.
Susan’s previous three releases also featured some of Boston and Nashville’s best musicians such as: Dave Mattacks, Richard Gates, Kevin Barry, Lorne Entress, Jake Armerding, Duke Levine, Randy Khors, Pat Buchanan as well as duets with Mark Erelli and Ellis Paul.
Her first album “Brave and Wild” was selected as “Best Boston Artist Debut” and “One of the Top 10 Albums of 2009” by Jay Miller from the Patriot Ledger.
Released in 2011, Susan’s second album, Heaven to Heartache charted high on the Americana Radio chart and her singles have charted at #6 on the European Country Music Association chart, #5 on the New Music Weekly Country radio chart, and #76 on the Music Row Chart.
