Holiday Weekend Sees 3 Fatal Highway Crashes

All three people were outside their vehicles when struck.

Christmas weekend was marred by three fatal highway crashes — two in Massachusetts and another just over the border on Interstate 93 in New Hampshire. The victims — all three of whom were under the age of 30 — were struck while outside their vehicles, according to authorities.

A 19-year-old woman from Methuen died after pulling over on an icy I-93 in New Hampshire and attempting to switch positions with a passenger. Ashley St. Onge became frightened when she was driving on slippery roads in Windham, N.H., New Hampshire State Police said. When she left the vehicle to switch with a teen passenger, the car was struck by a tractor trailer that police said was unable to stop due to the road conditions. St. Onge died at the hospital. A Rhode Island man was struck and killed Christmas Eve after ditching his car and fleeing police, authorities said. State Police did not say why 29-year-old Anthony Perry of Pawtucket allegedly attempted to evade a Seekonk Police officer and run across Route 195. A 26-year-old Boston man was struck and killed Christmas Eve after he left his vehicle following a crash on Route 24, police said. Police said Darkeem Kelow was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox in the left lane on Route 24 South when his vehicle struck a 2004 Honda Civic around 9:20 p.m. Kelow left his vehicle and "ran" into the left lane on the northbound side, where he was struck by a Ford Escape. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
