A Lilly Pulitzer Signature Store Opens on Main

In the Pink, a Lilly Pulitzer signature store, opened its doors on Main Street earlier this month. I was more than delighted to learn of the store opening, and as soon as I heard the news, I threw on my "Lilly" best and trotted right down to investigate what I knew would be my new favorite store.

Splashes of color are all that you see when you enter this sunny, cheerful boutique. Combinations of pink and green, yellow and blue... it's all there, screaming "summer is finally here!"

It was just a few days after the store opened, so pink lemonade was served chilled and ready for shoppers to sip. A super-sweet college coed warmly welcomed me to the store and the shopping just got better from there.

Right off the bat,  I discovered the "summer must-haves," which include some sweet buttercup-colored short shorts ($58), some cushy new tees ($58), and the gotta-have-it bag of the season, the "docksider tote," which retails for $148. 

For those of you who are not familiar with the famous dressmaker, the story began a little like this: In 1950, Lilly McKim eloped with Peter Pulitzer, grandson of publisher Joseph Pulitzer, and settled in Palm Beach. Pulitzer owned several citrus grooves in south Florida.

Now, Lilly, being the innovative young woman she was, decided to open a juice stand with all the produce from the groves and sell it on Via Mizner, which is just off Worth Avenue in Palm Beach. While working her juice stand, Lilly found that squeezing juice made a mess of her clothes. So what goes a gal do to hide the bright stains? Design an even brighter shift dress made of  colorful printed cotton!

And voila... the Lilly Pulitzer brand was born!

I am truly "tickled pink" about the arrival of this store. Even my daughter's name is Lily, and she was born in Palm Beach, too! (Oddly enough, her favorite color is pink.)
