Moran, McMahon Win Barnstable-Plymouth Senate Primaries
Susan Moran and James McMahon will move on to the special election for the Plymouth & Barnstable District Senate seat.

FALMOUTH, MA — Democrat Susan Moran and Republican James McMahon won the special state Senate primary for the Plymouth & Barnstable district, according to unofficial results. Both will move on to the general election March 31. A special election was called after Sen. Vinny deMacedo, a Republican, resigned to take a job at Bridgewater State University.
Moran defeated a crowded field of five candidates and finished with 8,871 votes. Her next closest rival, Thomas Mahoney, finished with 8,606 votes.
On the Republican side, McMahon came out victorious in a two-person race, defeating Jesse Brown, 8,281 votes to 6,474.

Results were delayed Tuesday night because of voting machine malfunctions in Plymouth, the district's largest town, according to the Cape Cod Times. Results didn't come in until around 2 a.m.

The Plymouth & Barnstable Senate District represents Bourne, Falmouth, Kingston, Plymouth, Pembroke and Sandwich.
