Body Found In Texas May Be Former Falmouth Priest

FALMOUTH, MA – Authorities in Texas may have found the body of a retired Falmouth priest reported missing earlier this month. William Costello, 71, was last seen Aug. 1 at a condominium complex on South Padre Island, TX.

Authorities found human remains at a cemetery near Santa Monica, TX, which is about 60 miles northwest of South Padre Island, according to southcoasttoday.com. An arrest has been made.

Costello served as pastor of St. Anthony's Parish from 1999-2011 before retiring and moving to Texas about three or four years ago, Diocese of Fall River spokesman John Kearns told southcoasttoday. Kearns said the circumstances surrounding the body are "very disturbing" and the parish is waiting for more information.

Police said Costello was likely with his dog when he went missing.
