‘Boston Strong’ License Plate Would Benefit Bombing Victims
A portion of the plate fee would go to the One Fund Boston under proposed state legislation. The closest relatives of those killed or severely injured in the Boston Marathon bombings would not have to pay the fee for one plate each.

A bill headed to the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Transportation this week would create “Boston Strong” license plates that would benefit The One Fund Boston, which raises money for victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.Similar to other special plates that benefit breast cancer, animal welfare and youth hockey causes, the Boston Strong plates would include an extra registration fee. The legislation calls for a fee “of not less than $50 for such plates in addition to the established registration fee for private passenger motor vehicles.”
Another provision is that one Boston Strong plate would be issued free to any parent, child, sibling or spouse of a family member killed or severely injured in the April 15 bombing.
“The portion of the total fee remaining after the deduction of costs directly attributable to the issuance of such plates shall be directed to The One Fund Boston,” according to the legislation.

The Joint Committee on Transportation has scheduled a hearing at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
