David Ariagno on How To Stick To New Year's Resolutions

David Ariagno, President of Brilliant Marketing, explains different ways to stick to your new year's resolutions in 2019.

Believe it or not, the new year is almost upon us. Time seems to go by so quickly, but we are rapidly approaching the start of a brand new calendar year, which gives people another opportunity to improve themselves.

However, as the countdown to a new year commences, there also lies the inevitable new year’s resolutions that you make for yourself. Whether this is losing weight, getting a certain job, traveling the world or something else, the hardest thing one can do is stick to a resolution. It is actually pretty common for these resolutions to be broken within a week of January. Fortunately, there are ways that you can stick to them. Here is what you can do.

Be Specific
The most important thing you can do when trying to stick to a new year’s resolution that you will not quickly break is knowing what you actually want to accomplish. When you say you want to lose weight, what number are you targeting? When you say you want to get a certain job, which job do you want? If it is maintaining cleanliness in the household, what do you mean? Having vague goals can have you searching all over the place and breaking your resolutions within moments. Get specific.

Take It Slow
Fulfilling a resolution, much like attaining a goal that you set for yourself takes time to accomplish. You cannot expect everything to happen at once. Do not be discouraged if you do not notice any progress right out of the gate. You can’t expect to be looking instantly slimmer within a week of changing your health habits. It can be an arduous process, but you will eventually find out that when it comes to fulfilling resolutions, patience is a virtue.

Do One Thing At A Time
You can find yourself being overwhelmed by all of your goals if you have multiple things that you want to achieve. While it is good to have multiple goals, you should taper your expectations if you overwhelm this. The best way to combat this is to focus on one goal at a time.

Follow these tips, and you will indeed find your journey to sticking to resolutions that you made in January go through December.
