Dog Left In Hot Car While Family Ate Dinner In Wareham

The Wareham DNS cited the owner for the "unacceptable" action.

WAREHAM, MA – A family in Wareham left their dog in a hot car while they went out to dinner Sunday, according to the Department of Natural Resources. The Wareham DNR shared a photo of the dog, which was in a car with one window open about two inches.

"This is unacceptable due to the heat issue," the DNR wrote on Facebook. The outside temperature when authorities received the call was 86 degrees, the department added.

The DNR cited the owner the maximum amount by law, according to the department. A first-time offender is cited $150 for leaving a dog in a hot car in Massachusetts. A second offense is punishable by a fine of up to $300 and a third offense is a $500 fine.
