Concert: Piano 4 Hands

The Woods Hole Public Library is delighted to announce a concert for piano four hands by acclaimed musicians Aldo de Vero & Bryan Uecker. “Piano four hands”  is an American term for a performance on a single instrument by two people. This concert will feature work composed or arranged specifically for this form, including Beethoven’s  Sonata in D Major, Op. 6; Mozart’s  Sonata in B-flat Major, K. 358;  Schubert’s  Fantasy in F minor, Op. 103 (D 940); and selections from Dvoràk’s Slavonic Dances  Op. 72, ##7-8. As with many of the Library’s recent concerts, this performance, scheduled for Sunday evening, July 22 at 7:30 PM will be held in a private home in Woods Hole.

Aldo de Vero, a native of Italy, studied piano at the S. Pietro a Majella Conservatory and Accademia Chigiana with renowned pianist Bruno Canino. He has become a dedicated advocate of contemporary music and in particular of American composers. He has performed music by Cage, Crumb, Feldman, Cowell, Barber and Nancarrow in recital and with the Appalachian Ensemble many times, a highlight being a concert of “Three Quarter Tone Pieces" by Charles Ives for the 1994 G7 summit in Naples. His performances often include lively commentary on the composers and their music and their place in musical history.

As director and conductor of the Coro Polifonico "S.Leonardo" di Procida, Mr. de Vero has released a recording entitled "Fenesta che lucive" (PoloSud) of his own transcriptions of classic Neapolitan songs sung by the choir accompanied by non-traditional instruments. In addition to his active performing career, de Vero is also founding member of the Associazione Key Largo, an organization that produces concerts and chamber music workshops. Although Mr. de Vero and his family  live in Naples, his wife has a Falmouth connection and they have a house in Falmouth where they spend the whole summer with their two school-age children.

Bryan Uecker was raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan and received his Bachelors of Music in Piano Performance from Hope College where he studied with Charles Aschbrenner. He also has a Masters of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Texas at Austin. Bryan has been attending the Ischia Chamber Music Workshop on the island of Ischia in Italy. Back at home he is a regular performer at the Classical Music Night every month at the Book Nook and Java Shop, of which he is one of the owners.   He returns to Montague, Michigan every summer with his family to a cottage in North Grey Dunes.  Active musically in solo and chamber music, he also enjoys performing with his 11-year-old twin daughters, Adrienne (violin) and Miriam (piano) as "Trinergy".
