Who Knew?? Superman: The High-Flying History of America's Most Enduring Hero - Author Talk and Bagel Breakfast with Larry Tye
Join Author Larry Tye for a bagel breakfast and talk, at which signed copies of Superman: The High-Flying History of America's Most Enduring Hero will be for sale. The winner of a brief Superman TRIVA CONTEST will be rewarded with a copy of Larry Tye’s book.
Larry Tye's just-published cultural history of Superman explores how a Jewish teenager in Cleveland who, on the eve of the Depression and the death of his dad, created a hero both for himself and his country -- one with blue tights, a red cape, and the memorable name of Superman. It wasn't just Jerry Siegel who was Jewish, but his hero as well, whose Kryptonian name Kal-El suggests a vessel of God and whose backstory is partly taken from Genesis (the destruction of his planet and his being rocketed to Earth) and partly out of Exodus (his rescue by two Gentiles who raise him as theirs).
From 1986 to 2001, Tye was a reporter at the Boston Globe, where his primary beat was medicine. He also served as the Globe’s environmental reporter, roving national writer, investigative reporter, and sports writer. Visit his website at http://www.larrytye.com/
