Falmouth 110 Decibel Wind Turbines For Sale or Lease
Massachusetts Courts Shut Down Turbines Forever June 2017

The Town of Falmouth public officials since the installation of two town-owned wind turbines have looked at zoning regulations and bylaws as simply just a game in which they interpret which ones fit their wind turbine agenda gone horribly wrong.
The state of Massachusetts sold the first wind turbine to the town. The specifications, email, and letter show the turbine generates 110 decibels of noise requiring a setback of almost 3000 feet to a residential home. The town ignored zoning bylaw 240-166 concerning the safety and health of residential neighborhoods.
A Massachusetts state agency in 2005 produced a report that shows commercial wind turbines emit at least two types of noise, one measured in decibels and the second called human annoyance aka low-frequency noise or infra-sound. The Falmouth wind turbine is capable of producing infra-sound at 110 decibels of noise according to town documents.

Anyone living within 3000 feet of a 110 decibel wind turbine noise would be linked to noise annoyance, sleep disturbance, and psychological distress. There is plenty of existing statistically-significant evidence indicating an association between wind turbine noise exposure and tinnitus, hearing loss, vertigo or headache. The lack of sleep can lead to cancer.
The Town of Falmouth Select Board, acting through the Town Manager, has been seeking a wind turbine project host agreement since the courts shut down the turbines in June of 2017.

Town Meeting Members were convinced to spend 2.5 million in November of 2019 to take down the wind turbines when told nine organizations responded to the Town of Falmouth's request for letters of interest to move its two wind turbines.
There is over 3 million in bond payments remaining for Wind turbine # 1. In addition, according to federal regulations, the town is required to pay $3.5 million to the Massachusetts Clean Water Trust plus 2% interest for an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act loan made to the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The town borrowed $4,865,000 from the trust to construct Wind turbine # 2. The loan agreement brokered by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection states the town would not owe principal or interest as long as Wind 2 remains operational. The town’s obligation has been reduced to $3.5 million-plus 2 percent interest. The turbines have not operated for three years.
Lastly, the Falmouth wind turbines designed in the 1990s have multiple wheels and bearings in a gearbox that suffers tremendous stress because of wind turbulence and any defect in a single component can bring the turbine to a halt. This makes the gearbox the highest-maintenance part of a turbine. In addition, the older blades crack and wear out reducing the amount of power as much as half the original power.
To put it another way, if these turbines were cars all you need is a new engine, transmission and wheels and it's good as new.
When Town Meeting approved the 2.5 million to take down the turbines no one asked how much Falmouth Wind turbine #1 originally cost. The cost of Falmouth Wind turbine # 1 was 2.6 million and the state gave the Town of Falmouth one million dollars to take it off their hands.
The town is spending more money to take down two 15-year-old gear-driven wind turbines than they are worth !!!!!!!
