Falmouth Considers Nixing 'Selectmen' Name

FALMOUTH, MA – The Board of Selectmen on Monday considered some gender-neutral alternatives to its name. Names such as "board of selectors," "select board" and "selectperson" were suggested, the Falmouth Enterprise reported.

The charter review committee is taking a name change under consideration, a measure which the board of selectmen supported Monday, according to the Enterprise.

There are two possible ways a change could take place: some communities change the name in legal documents and charters, while others informally refer to the governing body by a more gender-neutral name.
