Falmouth Fish Market Voluntarily Recalls 9K+ Shellfish

The recall comes after a supplier was charged with selling shellfish caught from a contaminated pond.

FALMOUTH, MA – The Falmouth Fish Market voluntarily recalled 9,200 shellfish after a supplier was arrested last week and charged with harvesting contaminated shellfish, according to the Department of Public Health. Carlton Hendricks III pleaded not guilty Aug. 9 to charges of shellfishing in a contaminated area, shellfish improperly tagged, incorrect shellfish labeling and permit not in possession. He pleaded not guilty Aug. 9.

Falmouth Fish Market Owner David Shahzade told the Cape Cod Times the shellfish Hendricks brought in on the day of his arrest was immediately separated, but he initiated a recall because some of Hendricks' previous catch was mixed with the rest of the store's product.

According to the Department of Public Health, 490 shellfish had not yet been sold by the Falmouth Fish Market and were destroyed, while 8,710 had already been sold. Falmouth Fish Market sells to wholesalers in Boston and restaurants on Cape Cod, Shahzade told the Times.
