The courts have shut the turbines down forever. The residents around the turbines have spent their life savings trying to protect their health and property rights while town officials have for eight years told residents & Town Meeting Members the wind turbine lawsuits are a " slam dunk."

It's probably time to consider a contract municipal legal service.

The first step in the process is to assess the community’s level of need for a town attorney or contract municipal law firm.

This is best accomplished by forming a committee, reviewing and analyzing invoices for legal services over prior years.

Check for basic information to extract includes the hourly rate and payment amount, billable hours, a description of the service provided and the date it was provided.

The Select Board next step involves anticipating future events that are expected to require the input of legal counsel. Of particular note in both the historical experience and looking forward is the use of and need for specialty services, such as labor lawyers, real estate lawyers and litigators.

In many instances, a contracted experienced municipal law firm can provide these services as part of its regular hourly rate.
