Falmouth Man Charged With Murder In Hyannis Shooting

William Hayes, 38,​ of Falmouth was accused of fatally shooting Darrell Russ, of Hyannis, and then running away to Mississippi.

FALMOUTH, MA — A Falmouth man accused of fatally shooting a 33-year-old Hyannis man was arraigned in Barnstable District Court Tuesday. William Hayes, 38, was charged with murder and assault with a dangerous weapon after prosecutors said he killed Darrell Russ last month.

According to police, Hayes shot Russ three times outside a home in the 300 block of Yarmouth Road on Oct. 17 before taking off for Yazoo, Mississippi and hiding at a relative's home. Members of the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Task Force found Hayes and arrested him Nov. 1.

Hayes was ordered held without bail. He's scheduled to return to court for a probable cause hearing Jan. 8.
