Falmouth Road Race's Size Questioned

A request to increase the number of registered runners by more than 1,000 was denied Monday by the Board of Selectmen.

The Falmouth Enterprise is reporting that the size of the Falmouth Road Race was called into question at Monday night's Board of Selectmen meeting, with the selectmen electing to cap its size at 12,800 entrants, the same size as last year.

According to the report, newly appointed race organizer David McGillivray had asked the selectmen this week to expand the number of entrants allowed in the race, which is now in its 40th year, to 14,000—an increase of over 1,000 runners. The request was eventually denied.

Although several residents complained at Monday's meeting about the burgeoning size of the race in recent years, Police Chief Anthony Riello assured the audience that his department has not had a problem with ensuring the public's safety during race day.
