Film about Israel's National Baseball Team Screens in Falmouth

A stirring story of how American Jews of varying backgrounds and ties to Judaism united to form an Israeli national baseball team

On Saturday, November 17, Falmouth Jewish Congregation will host a screening of Heading Home: The Tale of Team Israel, an award-winning documentary of how a team of nice, Jewish baseball players took on the world (series!). It’s will be a great way to hold onto the Red Sox World Series excitement. Doors open at 7:00pm and the screening begins at 7:30pm. Popcorn and drinks are included in the ticket price, and hot dogs will be offered for sale. Tickets are $10 for members and $12 for all others, sold at the door only.

Heading Home: The Tale of Team Israel won the Audience Award at the Washington, DC Jewish Film Festival and Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival (2018), as well as the Best Documentary award at the Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival and Fairfield Country’s Jewish Arts and Film Festival. A stirring story of sports, patriotism and personal growth, Heading Home charts the underdog journey of Israel's national baseball team competing for the first time in the World Baseball Classic. After years of defeat, Team Israel finally ranked among the world's best in 2017, making it eligible to compete in the prestigious international tournament. Their line-up included several Jewish American Major League players―Ike Davis, Josh Zeid and ex-Braves catcher Ryan Lavarnway―most with a tenuous relationship to Judaism, let alone having ever set foot in Israel. Their odyssey takes them from Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, where they are greeted as heroes, to Seoul where they must debunk their has-been, wannabe reputations. With their Mensch on the Bench mascot by their side, the team laughs, cries, and does much soul-searching, discovering the pride of representing Israel on the world stage. Heading Home, directed by the experienced and award-winning team of Seth Kramer, Daniel A. Miller, and Jeremy Newberger, runs 91 minutes.
