Former Cape Cod Selectman Convicted Of Assaulting Girlfriend

His longtime girlfriend told police he grabbed her and smashed her head into the floor during an argument about his infidelity.

BOURNE, MA – A former Bourne selectman was convicted Tuesday of assaulting his girlfriend. Michael Blanton, 50, was found guilty of assault and battery on a household/family member, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, intimidation of a witness and threatening to commit a crime following a two-day trial, according to the Cape Cod Times.

Blanton was arrested in February after his longtime girlfriend, Shannon Flynn-James, accused him of attacking her. She told police that during an argument about Blanton's infidelity, he grabbed her, smashed her head into the floor, held a baseball bat to her and threatened to kill her.

At his dangerousness hearing, Flynn-James told the court he grabbed her by the throat and threw her into a bathtub during another incident, the Times reported.

Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe said the verdict was "consistent with the evidence."

Blanton will be sentenced Friday.
