How To WASTE $14 Million

Have selectmen forgotten that a landslide of Falmouth voters REJECTED funding turbine removal?

What could Falmouth do with $14 million? Lots of priorities come to mind. A senior center. Resources for schools, as well as emergency services. Athletic fields. Improvements to roads. Coastal preparations for rising sea levels. Plenty of underfunded needs.

However, Falmouth selectmen have chosen another use for this money. Fourteen million dollars is the estimated cost of scrapping the town's two wind turbines.

Falmouth has already voted on whether to fund removal of the turbines. In May 2013, a 2-1 majority of voters rejected funding turbine removal. All nine precincts voted against removal. Selectmen have apparently forgotten that resounding message from the voters.

When they recently decided against appealing a flawed court ruling, Falmouth selectmen committed the town to a massive financial obligation. It seems they've forgotten the advice of their own board of health, and the advice of local doctors.

On 4/20/17, a jury at Barnstable Superior Court ruled Falmouth's wind turbines aren't a nuisance.

In other Massachusetts communities, turbines identical to Falmouth's (or larger) operate 24x7 without controversy, despite being located closer to homes. In Gardner MA, two Vestas V82 turbines operate near a hospital and courthouse.
