Hundreds Gather in Falmouth for Pledge of Allegiance Protests
Hundreds of residents turned out on the Falmouth Town Hall Green for various incarnations of the Pledge of Allegiance on Monday evening.
After Falmouth selectwoman Melissa Freitag created a stir by refusing to lead the traditional Pledge of Allegiance at last week's Board of Selectmen meeting, hundreds of residents packed the Town Hall Green last night to affirm their conviction that the Pledge should be upheld at those meetings.
And while the majority of yesterday's protesters were there to recite the traditional Pledge of Allegiance—including Freitag, who only omitted saying the words "under God"—a separate group of about 20 counter-protesters also showed up to recite a version of the pledge that did not reference either religion or the American flag.
Many of the hordes of people standing outside town hall before the meeting said news of Freitag's omission of the pledge the previous week made them angry.

"I regret if I offended anyone last week," Freitag said yesterday, according to the Cape Cod Times.
