Local Companies Set to Race Through Mashpee Commons

The 2012 Seaside Le Mans is set for Sept. 8.

Dozens of local companies are gearing up to race through the streets in Formula One race karts during the 12th Annual Seaside Le Mans-The Race for the Cape Cod Community, as over 10,000 spectators are expected to return to Mashpee Commons on Saturday, September 8, 2012. The event begins with a patriotic medley from the 30-member “We Are The Men” singers at 11:45am and the 12:00pm Opening Ceremonies include an honor guard and flyover followed immediately by the 4-hour race and awards presentation.

The community fundraiser is a thrilling 4-hour Formula One kart endurance race featuring teams of drivers from local businesses and organizations racing on an outdoor track, complete with a bridge over the track to the infield. With kart sponsorships and matching funds, this year’s race will bring the total funds raised to nearly $3.5 million over the past twelve years – all of which has directly benefited the Cape Cod community.

Beneficiaries of the race this year are the Cape & Islands Special Olympics, CHAMP Homes, Community Health Center of Cape Cod and Sight Loss Services. Each organization will receive a check for $40,000 at the end of the race. The Davenport Companies work in partnership with The Cape Cod Foundation to manage the sponsorship donations and to distribute the gifts to the local beneficiaries. "From the beginning, the whole focus of this event has been on bringing the community together to support Cape Cod," said event founder DeWitt Davenport, President of The Davenport Companies. "We truly feel the success of this event is a combined effort. It’s extremely gratifying to see area businesses and individuals join together to help the community.” Unique among fundraisers, 100% of sponsorship dollars from the event go directly to the chosen beneficiaries since expenses are underwritten by The Davenport Companies, covering all event costs and working closely with F1 Boston to organize and manage the race.

This family-friendly event, including infield viewing, is free to spectators. There will be music, food and beverage vendors, children’s activities, and a merchandise tent. Mashpee Commons also has a plethora of shopping and dining opportunities. Additional event and sponsorship information can be found at www.seasidelemans.org
