Putnam Party Kicks Off Assembly of Delegates Bid

The young candidate celebrated his run at J.R. Brody's on Wednesday.

Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates hopeful Andrew Putnam held a party to celebrate his candidacy yesterday, at . Supporters were on hand to wish the 22-year-old political prodigy well.

John Hallinan, friend and supporter, said Putnam is ideally suited to local government.

“He seems to want to do everything the right way, instead of trying to please everybody.” At the same time, Hallinan said, “He admits when he's wrong.”

Juli Mayers, who has known Putnam since she was his adviser at a youth camp, said that even then the young man displayed traits that made him stand out from the crowd.

“Andrew was one of the people we selected to do a leadership role at the start.” Among other characteristics, Mayers said, some of the most important were “responsibility and accountability.”

Mayers describes Putnam's politics as more “Jeffersonian” than Republican. Putnam, already a Town Meeting member, and the chairman of the Affirmative Action Committee, will find out if he will have the opportunity to bring those politics to the county level this fall.
