Top Reasons to Reject Article 14 at Fall Town Meeting

Don't waste millions of dollars. We already voted against funding removal of wind turbines.

Top Reasons to Vote Against Article 14 at Fall Town Meeting

Article 14 at Falmouth Fall Town meeting requests $2.5 Million to “initiate the process of disposition of the Wind Turbines”. There's several compelling reasons to reject this “tip of the iceberg” spending.

1) REMOVING FALMOUTH'S WIND TURBINES WOULD COST FALMOUTH TAXPAYERS $12 to $15 MILLION including lost electricity generation. Cost per Town Manager's office, Falmouth Enterprise 9/25/15.

2) WE ALREADY VOTED! In May 2013, ALL NINE Falmouth precincts voted against funding removal of the Town’s wind turbines, with an overall 2-1 margin. (See Question 2 results)

3) A 2007 Massachusetts state law authorizes Falmouth to operate wind turbines at the wastewater facility. With this state-level authorization, Falmouth ZBA has no jurisdiction. (For another example, the Steamship Authority, authorized by the state, is exempt from local bylaws).

4) A jury at Barnstable Superior Court ruled Falmouth's wind turbines aren't a nuisance.

5) In Oct. 2015, Falmouth's board of health wrote this letter, noting public health research has found wind turbines to be harmless.

6) Five Falmouth physicians co-signed this 2013 letter supporting operation of the turbines.

7) Other Massachusetts communities have identical, or larger, turbines running 24x7, without any controversy.

8) When we ask why the "noise problem" is so hard to hear, and impossible to record, we're told it's low-frequency infrasound. But studies in several nations have debunked that theory.

9) In 2012, a distinguished professor of public health wrote this letter, describing turbine-related complaints as a psychogenic illness.

10) Levels of carbon dioxide in earth's atmosphere continue to rise at alarming rates.

11) Turbines do not cause property values to decrease, according to peer-reviewed study from a federal government laboratory.

12) Over 400 Falmouth residents have digitally signed a petition urging Selectmen to "maximize generation of clean renewable energy, and Town revenue". The petition remains open from additional signatures.
