Woman Rushing To Church Hit Cape Cod Officer With Car: Police

The officer was struck in the leg and arm while directing traffic in front of a church Sunday.

FALMOUTH, MA – A woman accused of hitting a Falmouth police officer with her car told police she was running late for church. The officer was directing traffic in front of St. Anthony's Church in East Falmouth when he was hit Sunday around 9:45 a.m., according to police.

The elderly driver allegedly struck the officer in the leg and arm as she drove past him. She told police she was "impatient" to get to a service at another location, MassLive reported. The woman was found a few hours later at her home.

Police have filed criminal charges against the woman, who was not publicly named. Authorities are also seeking to suspend her license.

The officer was alert after being hit and is expected to be okay, Falmouth police said in a statement.
