Woods Hole Woman’s Club Scholarship Awards Announced
Meeting Included presentation on history and future of Nobska Lighthouse

Dante Borgese, Sam Bumpus, Max Abrams were awarded scholarships by Woods Hole Woman's Club April 11.
The Woods Hole Woman’s Club has awarded scholarships to seven Precinct One high school seniors this year. Present at the group’s April meeting were Max Abrams and Dante Borgese from the Falmouth High School and Sam Bumpus of Falmouth Academy. Three additional scholarship winners who could not attend this meeting but will be introduced to the group in May are Louis Kilfoyle, Emily Wright, and Tomasz Dvork, all seniors at Falmouth High School. The seventh awardee, Luisa Bocconcelli, is enrolled in Falmouth Academy but spending her senior year in Morocco.
Max Abrams has earned the Eagle Scout award and played trumpet while in school. He plans to attend University of Massachusetts, Amherst, to major in mathematics and will also be commissioned in the Army ROTC. Dante Borgese has served as senior class vice president, played on the golf team and pursued interests in film and art. His plans are to enroll in the Isenberg School of Management at University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Sam Bumpus has explored theater staging and bread-making. He is still considering options for college enrollment and has expressed interest in physics.

The Scholarship Committee, headed by Priscilla Ruegg, presented the scholarship winners with a special cake for all to enjoy.
Following these festivities, Catherine Bumpus, Executive Director of Friends of Nobska Light, spoke to the group about the history and future of Nobska Lighthouse, illustrating her talk with both historical and contemporary photographs. The Friends of Nobska Light, Inc. is a non-profit organization formed by representatives of the Falmouth Historical Society, Highfield Hall and Gardens, Woods Hole Historical Museum, and the Woods Hole Community Association to maintain the town’s historic lighthouse for the town of Falmouth which owns the property. The group will oversee restoration and maintenance essential to the site’s preservation with future plans to establish a maritime museum and instructional space that will serve both students and tourists.

The Woods Hole Woman’s Club brings members together to provide enrichment and mutual helpfulness for the betterment of Woods Hole and the surrounding communities. New members are welcomed at any time during the year. Information about membership is available from Susan Houghton at 508-540-0578.
Fund raising for future scholarship awards will begin on May 2 with the Annual Scholarship Tea from 3-5 PM. Three additional award winners will be introduced to members attending the tea. The wider community is invited to make contributions to the Scholarship Fund. Checks should be written to “WHWC Charitable Trust” and mailed to: Kitty Brown, WHWC Treasurer, P.O.
