Woods Hole Woman’s Club Scholarship Awards Announced
Five Falmouth High School Students from Precinct One receive scholarships

The Woods Hole Woman’s Club has awarded scholarships to five college-bound Precinct One students this year, all seniors at Falmouth High School. Present at the group’s April meeting to be introduced to the group were Brian Estes, Natalie Gagnon, Merrill Glist, and Chole McLean. Hanna Ginsberg was also awarded a scholarship but unable to attend the meeting. As a part of the application process the students’ advisors and teachers report they are all active participants in many activities in and outside of school. They further describe the students as compassionate, leaders and organizers, enthusiastic, kind, and always trying to be better.
Brian Estes is an Eagle Scout and Junior Assistant Scout Master, Captain of the varsity soccer and tennis teams, and plays the trumpet. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society. He has worked at Landfall Restaurant.

Natalie Gagnon is the captain of the volleyball team, plays varsity basketball, high jumps for the track team and teaches skiing on weekends. She is a peer tutor in all academic areas. She feels drawn to college in the Western states.
Hanna Ginsberg plays competitive lacrosse and enjoys community service projects and tutors at Mullen Hall School.

Merrill Glist enjoys volleyball, math, and is a teaching assistant at the Woods Hole Child Center. When introduced she described her senior project titled “Appreciating the Unappreciated” that honored custodial, cafeteria, and clerical employees of the schools.
Chloe McLean has played varsity soccer for four years and is captain of the team this year and has also studied ballet. She is an active artist in several media who has received invitations and prizes from many local and state exhibitions. She hopes to work with art to make connections between people and build community.
Jeannette Fullerton, a member of the Scholarship Committee, presented the scholarship winners with a special cake for all to enjoy.
Following these festivities, Virginia Carmichael, former chair of the Falmouth Community Preservation Committee, and Jessica Whritenour, Executive Director the 300 Committee Land Trust described and presented maps and illustrations of the many locations that have benefited from the efforts of these groups to preserve and improve the quality of life in Falmouth.
The Woods Hole Woman’s Club brings members together to provide enrichment and mutual helpfulness for the betterment of Woods Hole and the surrounding communities. New members are welcomed at any time during the year. Information about membership is available from Dee Aukamp at 508-495-9911.
Fund raising for future scholarship awards will begin on Wednesday, May 2 with the Annual Scholarship Tea from 3-4:30 PM. The wider community is invited to make contributions to the Scholarship Fund.
