The 2018 Red Sox Make History With Franchise First: 106 Wins

The team broke a franchise record with 106 wins in a season.

FENWAY, MA — The 2018 Boston Red Sox scored a page in the history books Monday night. The 6-2 win over Batlimore was the team's 106th of the season - the most in the franchise's 117-year history.

“You think about all the history of the game and the history of this franchise,” first-year manager Alex Cora told reporters.

The victory also secured homefield advantage through the postseason.

At the end of the game the center field scoreboard projected the news: "The 2018 Red Sox have set the club's single-season franchise record with 106 wins." The other scoreboards flashed “106 Wins.”

And the crowd went wild, jumping up and down, many holding handmade signs.

The win broke the tie the Sox had with the 1912 team, which went 105-47 en route to a World Series championship. The Sox was founded in 1901. The team (known then as the Boston Americans) played near Huntington Avenue from 1901 to 1911 and didn't move to Fenway Park until 1912.

Red Sox play the Orioles Tuesday night and again Wednesday. This weekend the Sox face off against the Yankees Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

“To be part of this, I can’t even explain it. We should call timeout and enjoy this one,” said Cora, who is in his first year as manager. “We know what we want to do in October, but this one … for us to do it is amazing.”
