BOSTON – The YMCA of Greater Boston is pleased to announce a new transition to its executive staff with the recent change of Allston resident, Aaron Donahue, to fill the role of executive director of the Huntington Ave YMCA.
Donahue began his YMCA career in multiple part-time positions in 1996, and after 16 years of Y leadership, accepts his third executive director position, now leading the Huntington Avenue branch in Boston. For the last two and a half years, Donahue served as the executive director of the Oak Square Y, revitalizing the branch’s board of advisors, growing membership by almost 100%, and increasing charitable giving to the Y’s annual fund from $130,000 to $265,000. He also assisted in the recognition of the branch as the 2013 Brighton Business of the Year. In the three years prior to Oak Square, Donahue served as the executive director of the Olean Family YMCA in Olean, NY, achieving similar results and an increased impact in the community.
A graduate of the University of Colorado, Donahue is committed to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility and plans to bring his personal mission to help adults, children and families reach their fullest potential to Huntington Avenue.
“The YMCA of Greater Boston prides itself on attracting top talent to guide each branch in youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility—the Y’s areas of focus—and strengthening communities, “says President of the YMCA of Greater Boston, Kevin Washington. “It’s our goal to promote within and we are excited to see Aaron thrive in this new role and apply his skillset to continue to positively impact the youth and surrounding neighborhoods in Boston.”
