An Evening with Preston Reed and special guest Usman Riaz
Admission: $20 in advance, $25 general admission
Preston Reed’s audacious re-invention of acoustic guitar playing has influenced a generation of young guitarists, including Pakistani multi-instrumentalist, composer, and filmmaker Usman Riaz. They will be reunited for one night only for the first time since their hit performance at TEDGlobal in Edinburgh, Scotland. Using the two-handed integrated percussive acoustic technique he pioneered in 1980s and ‘90s, Preston Reed fuses chord-based grooves, soaring melodic runs, and polyrhythmic percussion that integrates the breathtaking potential of the guitar body.
Berklee student Usman Riaz was the youngest TED senior fellow ever selected. Riaz has spoken and performed on the TED main stage and has been traveling all over the world, sharing his artwork and music with audiences, to emphasize how all of us can use multimedia around us to further our talents. Born in Karachi, Pakistan, Riaz began playing classical piano at age six, but as he got older he wanted to learn new instruments and styles. With music teachers in Pakistan in short supply, he used the internet as his teacher. Watching hundreds of videos online, he taught himself percussive guitar as well as harmonica, mandolin, harmonium, and percussion.
Friday / November 7, 2014 / 8:00 p.m.

Exquisite vocalist Ana Moura possesses a sound unlike any other in fado. Her voice trolls freely though the Portuguese tradition, flirting elegantly with pop and broadening the soul-baring genre with stunning results. The BBC raves, “her melancholic intimacy dominates the moment it sashays out of the speakers . . . setting a mood of mesmerizing sorrow.” Examiner.com called Moura’s voice, “made for melodrama . . . aesthetically thrilling and emotionally heartbreaking.”

This theatrical event will feature dancing instrumentalists and the magic of Puck, who might just come into the audience and sprinkle some love dust on you.
Thursday / November 20, 2014 / 8:00 p.m.
Ani DiFranco
Admission: $35 – 45
After 20 years in the music business, self-described “Little Folksinger” Ani DiFranco is still technically little, although her influence on fellow musicians, activists, and indie-minded people the world over has been huge. She still proudly identifies as a folksinger, too, but her understanding of that term has always been far more expansive than a bin at the record store or a category on iTunes, with ample room for soul, funk, jazz, electronic music, spoken word, and a marching band or two.
Friday / November 21, 2014 / 7:30 p.m.
