Red Sox Blank Giants; Lose Koji to Injury

David Ortiz keyed the offense with a home run as Boston dropped the team with the best record in baseball.

David Ortiz hit a three-run home run, Brock Holt extended his modest hitting streak with a solo shot, and Rick Porcello stayed hot at Fenway as the Red Sox beat old friend Jake Peavy and the MLB-leading Giants, 4-0.

Ortiz hit the 23d homer of his fantastic farewell season in the fourth inning, but it was Holt's longball an inning earlier that provided the Sox with all the offense they'd need. It was the eighth straight game Holt has had a hit in.

Porcello, who improved to 9-0 at Fenway this season, pitched well in 6 2/3 inning of shutout baseball before giving way to a patchwork bullpen that took yet another hit. Already without Junichi Tazawa and Craig Kimbrel, the Sox relief corps took a hit when Koji Uehara left in the ninth with a pectoral injury; the righthander will be reevaluated Wednesday.
