Patriots center David Andrews was hospitalized to treat blood clots in his lungs, jeopardizing his upcoming season, according to multiple reports. The Boston Globe reported Andrews was released from the hospital.

It is unknown what caused the clots. Andrews, a team captain, played in Thursday's preseason game against Carolina. He missed the last two practices.

Andrews, 27, went undrafted in 2015 but emerged as the Patriots starting center, communicating with the rest of the offensive line and snapping the ball to Tom Brady.

Ted Karras will likely take over for Andrews if he can't play.

It's been an eventful ending to the preseason for the Patriots. Team captain and starting safety Patrick Chung this week pleaded not guilty to felony cocaine possession and special teams ace Brandon King tore his quadriceps and will reportedly miss the season.
