President Trump Tweets On Patriots Win And Former Red Sox Pitcher

Trump's Twitter hasn't been affected by the government shutdown. The president touched on two local champions Sunday night.

FOXBORO, MA — New England's fan-in-chief took to Twitter Sunday night to congratulate his favorite NFL team. President Trump tweeted congratulations to owner Robert Kraft, coach Bill Belichick, quarterback Tom Brady and the rest of the Patriots "on a great game and season" after the Patriots beat Kansas City, 37-31, in an overtime thriller.

The Patriots are advancing to their ninth Super Bowl after the AFC Championship win. Trump has taken to tweeting about the Patriots in their postseason runs. The Patriots are the only NFL team to visit the White House after winning a Super Bowl. The Philadelphia Eagles were disinvited after reportedly only two players were still committed to going.

Trump has a history with Kraft, Belichick and Brady. Trump said the night before the 2016 presidential election that he received a call from Brady saying the quarterback voted for him. Trump then read out a flattering note from Belichick. Brady's relationship with Trump has been in play since he was spotted with a Make America Great Again hat in his locker.

Also Sunday night, Trump tweeted that former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling "deserves to be in the Baseball Hall of Fame." Schilling, a conservative who has taken heat and was even fired from ESPN for some of his political views, might wish Trump's endorsement came a month earlier: Ballots were due Dec. 31. Results will be announced Tuesday.
