Unexpected Gift Prompts Rare Smile from Bill Belichick: WATCH

First, he's a chatterbox. Now, he's a softy.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick flashed an exceedingly rare smile and shared a moment of levity with reporters at a Wednesday morning press conference.

What caused the break in character? A onesie for 1-day-old Blakely Rose Belichick, his granddaughter and newest member of the clan. And for those wondering: There wasn't a hoodie immediately visible on the onesie.

"Look at this, how cute," Belichick says when he approaches the podium. He asks if it was a gift from whole group of reporters or someone in particular.

Now a grandfather, which he announced to reporters Tuesday, Belichick has been out of character on back-to-back days. Tuesday morning, Belichick went on a lengthy rant about failing technology on the sidelines.

And Wednesday, he was cheesing. Then the smile faded, Belichick turned drier than a Saltine, his focus shifted to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the universe was in balance once more.

Minor victory for the media.
